Monday's Musical Muse

Two weeks in a row?! I know you're impressed :)

So far, I've held back from using my top three bands. However, while I was driving home from work today, this band came up on my iPod and I thought, 'yeah, you really need to make Radiohead today's muse'. And 'hear' we are.

They've been around since the Early 90's when their first full-length album, Pablo Honey, was released. If you're even close to my age, you probably remember hearing Creep everywhere on the radio.

Although every album they release has some sort of brilliance to it, my personal favorite is In Rainbows. I truly believe that this needs to make it into one of those 'top 100 albums of all time' lists. It really is one of the best albums I've ever heard.


I had a really hard time deciding which video to include but I figured I'd go with a fun song. Whenever I hear Jigsaw Falling Into Place it makes me want to write. Maybe it's because the song paints such a vivid picture of... well, I'll just let you listen - hopefully, you'll be inspired too, or at least feel the need to dance!

Monday's Musical Muse

I'd love to make this a weekly event, or at least monthly. However, the reality is that I know I will forget, especially this time of year when I'm sewing for the upcoming holidays (including Halloween!).

That's the thing about blogging - as much as I want to be consistent with posting, if I have to choose between sewing or writing a post, sewing will win every time. And I think that's the way it should be since that is where my creativity blooms. 

Anyway, the Monday Musical Muse...

If you follow me on Twitter, then you've probably seen me Tweet about Amazon's music deals. They are, by far, the best when it comes to downloading music. They have an extensive selection that also includes a lot of FREE music - and it's good stuff! Then, every month, they offer '100 Albums for $5 Each'. Some of the ones that stand out (for my taste) are Muse, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Prince, A Perfect Circle and so many more. And don't worry, they have options from all genres! 

Why did I just tell you that? Because each month, I look through the $5 selections and try to pick out something that I'm pretty sure I'd like but don't want to pay a lot for, 'just in case'. That's exactly what I did with this week's muse. I knew I liked The Black Keys but I only knew a few songs so when I saw Brothers was only 5 bucks, I grabbed it, and I'm glad I did! 

They have a blues/garage/60's/hipster mod sound. Yeah, I'm not sure what that means either but that's what I hear when I'm listening (almost daily). For me, it's quickly becoming one of those cd's to play in the background while I focus on making and designing.

Monday's Musical Muse

I find that when I'm in a creative zone (or need to be) there is nothing better than some good tunes! I have many go-to bands but, in general, my tastes are diverse. Although, I'm ashamed to say that it's taken me until I'm almost 40 to appreciate early Genesis and Peter Gabriel. Both the band and Gabriel's solo work were never more than a couple of catchy tunes to me. Perhaps that's because I associate the 80's with them (Abacab and In Your Eyes, specifically). Wow, did I miss out! The YouTube link below is a 1972 performance from a TV show in Belgium. So much talent. I can't even imagine what it would have been like to see them live.
