I'm A Farmer's Wife!

Autumn Tints, Basket Weave, Bat Wing
(I call it Tie Fighter. Can't you see Vader waving?)
Okay, so I am totally going out of order as I play catch-up. I should be show-and-telling about some really awesome swaps I participated in this summer but... I'm not. Not until I get some better photos. Instead, it's confessions of a farmer's wife. I know, you thought I was married to a cop and I am (just celebrated 15 years on the 4th!) but I've also become a farmer's wife. Here's the scoop:

Big Dipper, Birds in the Air, Bouquet
First of all, I had only planned on being moral support to the other wives but I got sucked into the excitement- that, and my husband surprised me with the book, The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt!

I first heard about this project/group From Amanda of Ms. McPorkchop Quilts on Twitter. I was very intrigued mainly because these blocks looked so out of my league! My quilts are not complicated at all and we're talking tiny little half-square triangles (HSTs) and such. I'm about 11 blocks behind but I've really enjoyed making them. Although, I've gotten to know my seam ripper a little bit too intimately...

Box, Bowtie, Broken Dishes
At first I wanted to make the blocks completely scrappy since I am overflowing with random pieces fabric. However, awhile ago, I bought a layer cake and some fat quarters of Origins by Basic Grey and decided this would be the best project for the stash. Plus I love this line and I know I will end up hoarding it and never make anything!

I have seen a huge improvement in my skills since starting. My seams and points are getting better and better. It has also helped to better visualize quilting ideas and start thinking outside the basic block. I'm excited to get into the other blocks and maybe, just maybe, I will catch up to the rest of the wives because I think I might just be a mistress right now ;)
